After a four-year wait, Seether are back with their ninth studio album, “The Surface Seems So Far”. Once again, the album was produced by the band’s frontman, Shaun Morgan, with mixing and sound design by Matt Hyde, who has worked with rock titans such as Slayer, Deftones, and AFI. In this new release, Seether firmly re-establishes itself as one of the key representatives of post-grunge, modern hard rock, and alternative rock.

With a runtime of 47 minutes and a total of 11 tracks, the album represents perhaps the band’s most mature moment, both lyrically and musically. The pandemic allowed Seether the necessary time to carefully craft every detail, resulting in a production filled with emotion, anger, and a thicker, more layered sound. The lyrics are deep and introspective, showcasing an evolution in their approach, while their sound still harks back to their 2000s roots, but with a newfound sense of maturity.

This record stands out not only for its lyrical depth but also for the strength of its riffs and the dynamic shifts in vocal performance. Morgan guides listeners through calm, melodic passages before erupting into fierce, guttural screams, adding a surprise element at just the right moments. Notably, for the first time, the band has not included an acoustic track, something that has been a staple of their previous albums.

Among the standout tracks are ‘Judas Mind’, ‘Try To Heal’, and ‘Dead On The Vine’, which encapsulate the essence of this album and will undoubtedly become anthems in their catalogue. The album achieves a perfect balance between melodic and raw sounds, creating a brooding atmosphere that is consistent throughout. “The Surface Seems So Far” solidifies Seether as a band that, after nearly two decades, still knows how to evolve without losing their essence, delivering a solid work that will remain a milestone in their career.
